The deep blue lakes and the green meadows create the landscape of this region. In the springtime, the rape flowers cover the hills like a yellow blanket. As night falls, the lights of the promenades light up in an evening glow. The temperament of the lively towns mixed with the quiet of picturesque villages and miles of land create a sense of harmony.
The residents love their land and so do the great number of guests. The growth rates of tourism in this region have been enormous. Since 1993 the number of overnight stays has risen from 7.6 to about 24.5 million and the number of beds has increased from 77,000 to 170,000. In the meantime, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has become the most popular tourist destination in all of Germany.
